Method of accommodating a room to an individual diagnosed with a neurological disorder BE2021/5291, system for accommodating a room to an individual diagnosed with a neurological disorder, and using such a system
The present invention, in a first aspect, relates to a method of accommodating a room to an individual diagnosed with a neurological disorder.
In a second aspect, the invention relates to a system usable for such a method, and in a third aspect to a corresponding use of such a system.
It has been established that individuals diagnosed with a neurological disorder may benefit from being in an environment that positively stimulates their neurological systems through the presence of personal stimuli.
Within the context of the present invention, the individual's neurological disorder may be of various types and severity, and may include a mental illness and/or cognitive impairment such as depression, dementia, Parkinson's disease, or traumatic brain damage.
In light of the professional care to be given to such individuals, it is therefore important to provide an environment or room that can be adapted to the specific personal stimuli for the individual using the room.
The specific personal stimuli can include any stimulus for the senses, i.e. sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste.
These stimuli can be provided by various adaptable devices present in the room.
In this way, for example, the individual may experience a more challenging stimulus to the brain and mind, which contributes to the individual's well-being.
Furthermore, the individual may have an in-room counseling session with, for example, a psychologist or a paramedical professional, which session may be more effective once the room is set up to provide personal stimuli known to be positive for the individual.
BE2021/5291 Because of its comforting effect on the individual, the adapted room can also be referred to as 'a comfort room'. The comfort room may also be useful to the individual as a meeting room for interaction with friends and/or relatives.
In order to provide such a comfort room in the establishment of a hospital, community center, or counselor's office, it is necessary that the room can be quickly and recommendedly adapted to be of practical use to a succession of different individuals. who want to use the room separately and successively.
In order to achieve the foregoing object, the invention provides a method of accommodating a room to an individual diagnosed with a neurological disorder, the method using a computer-implemented system, and comprising the steps of: a. providing a room comprising one or more adaptable devices controllable by the system, b. storing in a database of the system, personal files of individuals diagnosed with a neurological disorder, C. allowing the system to identify the individual who will be using the room, d. allowing the system to access the database and select from the database the personal file of the individual corresponding to the individual identified by the system in step c., e. allowing the system to customize one or more devices in the room based on the selected personal file created in step d. is received. database personal file database database personal file personal file In practice, a supervisor, such as for example a medical doctor or paramedic professional, will be responsible for operating the computer equipped system that makes the room suitable.
For example, the supervisor can decide when the individual can use the room.
Furthermore, the supervisor is responsible for storing a specific personal file of an individual in the database of BE2021/5291 in the system. For example, the supervisor can base the personal file on a personal questionnaire completed by the supervisor with the individual during an initial interview. The personal file will be based on individual preferences of the individual that correlate with specific stimuli required to make the comfort room suitable for the individual. For example, the specific stimuli may be related to long-term memories of the individual in order to activate them.
It is preferred in the method according to the invention that the individual is allowed to enter the room provided the room is accommodated to the individual, and wherein the system preferably checks whether this condition is met, and optionally provides access to the room is controlled by the system.
As such, the method avoids that an individual could enter the room while providing incorrect stimuli to the individual. The system can further control access to the room by locking and unlocking a door to the room. It is preferred that the room be automatically locked by the system after an individual has used and vacated the room. It is further preferred that in the process according to the invention at least steps c., d., and e. are repeated each time an individual uses the room separately and sequentially. In the method according to the invention, the personal file of an individual preferably comprises a line for a unique identity code of the individual, and a line containing different personal stimuli for the individual. Such a personal record allows for verification of the individual as well as specific control of adaptable devices in the room. In this context, the string can also be referred to as a variable specific to an individual person.
It is preferred in the method of the invention that the system reads the BE2021/5291 personal file file of the individual and as a result sends one or more control signals for one or more corresponding adaptable devices in the room, so that the devices are adapted based on the chosen personal file file.
More specifically, the system is configured to interpret the individual's personal file (specifically, a line of personal stimuli for the individual), and as a result select one or more corresponding control signals for one or more adaptable devices in the room.
For that purpose, the system uses specific software designed to interpret the individual's personal file file in order to select the appropriate control signals that correspond to the personal file file.
In the method according to the invention it is preferred that one or more adaptable devices in the room are selected from a group comprising: - lighting devices, which are for instance adjustable both in color and intensity; - curtains, for example window curtains that provide an optimal balance between shadow and incident light: - monitors for displaying images and/or videos, - loudspeakers that provide sound, for example natural sounds or music, - aroma diffusers for providing a specific smell in the room, - Climate controllers for controlling temperature and humidity in the room. Furthermore, in the method according to the invention, the system preferably has a (graphical) user interface that is user-friendly and preferably of an intuitive design.
The method according to the invention can be carried out in step e. include that the system further provides an indicator for a personal box of the individual, the personal box comprising physical items.
These physical objects can further stimulate the individual's senses of touch, activate long-term memories, and/or provide comfort to the individual. The supervisor and/or the individual may select one or more physical items from the box to be available to the individual in the room.
In particular, it is preferred that the system allows a supervisor and/or the individual to access the personal box once their identity has been verified.
It is preferred with regard to step b. of the method according to the invention that a personal file of an individual is entered into the database and stored by a supervisor who is authorized to do so.
In general, it is preferred that the method according to the invention comprises a verification step in which the system verifies whether a person is authorized to operate the system, before the person is allowed to operate the system.
For safety reasons, it is preferred that in step c. of the method according to any of the preceding claims, the individual is identified by a supervisor who inputs the individual's identity into the system.
Alternatively, in step c. identifying the individual based on a personal code provided by the supervisor, which code optionally authorizes the individual to perform the system steps c., d. and e. to be performed. Furthermore, the method according to the invention may comprise an additional adjustment step of the adaptable devices in the room by the supervisor and/or the individual when the room is used by the individual.
When the room is used by the individual, it may be helpful for the individual to fine-tune the adaptable devices in the room, which can be achieved by such an adjustment step, for example by using a remote control available in the room. , and which remote control makes it possible to operate the system.
According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided a system for hBE2021/5291 to accommodate a room to an individual diagnosed with a neurological disorder, which system is computer-implemented and comprises: a database for storing a personal file of individuals who have been diagnosed with a neurological disorder, - an identification module arranged to identify the individual who will be using the room, - a selection module arranged to select the personal file of the individual who will be using the room, - a control module adapted to adjust one or more adaptable devices in the room based on a selected personal file.
Such a system achieves the advantages already explained above, i.e. it makes it possible to adapt a comfort room to an individual in a rapid and recommended manner.
The different modules mentioned in this context may be based on specific software and/or hardware that is part of the computer equipped system.
It is preferred that the system according to the invention comprises a verification module which is arranged to verify that a person is authorized to operate the system, and which is arranged to allow the authorized person to operate the system after a positive verification.
It is further preferred that the system of the invention includes a remote control that can be used in the room to further adjust the adaptable devices in the room.
It is particularly preferred that the system according to the invention comprises a control module which monitors the accommodated status of the room, and which optionally controls the access to the room.
As such, the system helps prevent an individual from entering the room while the room has not yet been accommodated for the particular individual.
It is further preferred that the system according to the invention comprises an indicator module for indicating a personal box of the individual, which personal box contains physical objects.
A third aspect of the invention relates to the practical use of a system according to the second aspect of the invention, in carrying out the method according to the first aspect of the invention.
Accordingly, the practical use brings about the advantages already explained above, i.e. to accommodate a comfort room to an individual in a quick and recommended manner. Example The invention will be further elucidated with reference to an example shown in the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a schematic view of the computer equipped system according to a preferred embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 shows a comfort room that can be adapted in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention. Figure 1 shows a schematic view of the computer equipped system 1 electronically connected to comfort room 20 . A user of the system 1 interacts with the system via interface IF, which may include a keyboard and a monitor. In order to use the system, the user interacts with a verification module VF which is arranged to verify that a person is authorized to operate the system, and which is arranged to allow the authorized person to operate the system following a positive verification.
Once the verification is established, the user interacts with an identification module ID which is arranged to identify the individual who will be using the room. According to the identification of the individual who will use the room, the system cooperates with a selection module SM which is arranged to select a personal file of the individual who will use the room. The selection is made from BE2021/5291 a database DB that stores personal files of individuals diagnosed with a neurological disorder. The user can access these personal files in the database DB through the interface IF.
The personal file selected by the selection module SM is then sent to a control module CM which is configured to adapt one or more adaptable devices in the room 20 based on a selected personal file. The system 1 further includes a control module MO which checks the appropriate status of the chamber 20, and optionally controls the entry 22 of the chamber. Figure 2 shows a comfort room 20 which can be adapted by a computer equipped system 1 as shown in figure 1. The room 20 is provided with adaptable devices such as: - lighting devices 26, - curtains 25, - monitors 27 that display images and/ or videos, - loudspeakers that provide sound (integrated in monitor 27), such as natural sounds or music, - aroma diffusers 29 for providing a specific scent in the room, - climate controllers (not visible) for controlling temperature and humidity in the room the room. A remote control 30 is available in the room, which control can be used to further adjust the above-described adjustable devices 25-29 present in the room 20 .
